As you may or may not know, it was Conan O’ Brien‘s last show yesterday, Feb 20, 2009.  Now I don’t know about you, but I grew increasingly weary as the date drew nearer to Feb 20, the day that an era is going to end. I’m extremely saddened to see him leave Late Night as I have been watching him for more than half of his 16 year career with Late Night. No other talk show host, including Leno and Letterman IMO, has been able to be so tremendously original, consistently funny, and full of such vibrant energy. Always willing to make an ass of himself, Conan is a natural talent. Let’s not forget that before Conan ever entered into Late Night, he was a television writer for many many years and contributed in various influential long living comedy shows such as The Simpsons and Saturday Night Live. He is the David Letterman of the modern generation. Conan is comedy.

The past clips that Conan revisited these past few weeks really hit a spot for me because it doesn’t feel that long ago that I saw Triumph at the Star Wars convention, or Conan speed skating, or all the other great clips that he re-aired on behalf of fans and staff. More clips including his heartfelt and tear jerking speech after the jump. But before that, I’d just like to say THANK YOU CONAN for making television worth watching every night and for giving me washboard abs from laughing so hard.

A quote that truly resonates and sums it up best from the man himself:

It’s fine to be funny, but if you have no character, its not worth a damn.

Don’t ever grow up. =)

Let’s not forget the epic series during the writers strike when Conan, Colbert, AND Jon Stewart teamed up and WROTE THE MATERIAL THEMSELVES and produced many shows. Here’s a trailer someone made on youtube, you can watch the actual videos here.

And lastly, the 10 minute speech given at the end of Conan’s last show. This part killed me. So heartfelt. So grateful. So respectable. Will we ever get another man like this on television ever again?
