Wise words from one of my favorite pop artists of all time, Madonna. I have just finished all my readings for a presentation while drinking sambuca in preparation for an epic party that will end le Radical Queer Semaine here in MontrĂ©al. I was listening to a whole bunch of music to read and then to get pumped up and unsurprisingly I found myself landing on some good ol’ Madonna. Who, like Oasis, has been a part of my life for more than I can remember.
I know I said a mixtape was on the way, and it is, it REALLY IS, and it’s gonna be awesome. I’ve been going to a ton of shows and will have a ton coming up. I’ve yet to (possibly) do reviews on Braids, Silly Kissers, and Neon Indian who I’ve recently seen…and I have Joanna Newsom, Calvin Harris, Flying Lotus, Benga, Air, The Clientele…and EFFIN’ COACHELLA!!!
I promise to get the mixtape out by the end of the month which will cover live reviews, album reviews, as well as anticipate some upcoming Coachella artists. But enjoy two of my favorite Madonna songs in the meantime…=)
MP3: Madonna – Take A Bow (One of the best love songs of all time…rivals George Micheal me thinks)
MP3: Madonna – Human Nature (the video for this is inspiring)
Another mixtape will be on the way soon đŸ˜‰ and will include a lot of tracks from more great new albums this year as well as tracks from artists that are touring and will be doing lots of festivals! March is so ridiculous for shows and already this month I have more than 7 shows to see.
NEON AND HIGH FOOD MONTRÉAL have a THREE DAY festival coming up featuring: FLYING LOTUS!!! GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH *DIES* FLYING LOTUS! BENGA! FAKE BLOOD! JOAKIM! DUCHESS SAYS! AND MORE! Outside of the festival they’re hosting Aeroplane! Neon Indian! Silly Kissers! and more!
So sick.
Calvin Harris, Air, Joanna Newsom, the Clientele and many others are also making they’re way to MontrĂ©al this month! CALVIN HARRIS! I missed him at Coachella and I still regret it.
Anyways, I recently listened to Hot Chip’s new album One Life Stand and have determined that they will never live up to Coming On Strong or even The Warning, which for me (and for Taha ;)), is one of those classic dance albums. There are a few good singles on there like “One Life Stand” and “Keep Quiet”, but other than that it is a very very mainstream sound compared to their former works and not very much stands out. So this led me to go on a The Warning binge so to speak, and I haven’t been able to let go of listening to this album for a few days now.
I decided to share one of my favorite songs of all time “Boy From School” and a cover of it done by Grizzly Bear. I don’t think they did it justice…but “Boy From School” is one of those tracks that are absolutely untouchable, so perfect already. But the Grizzly Bear cover is a completey different side of it, and they did somewhat keep the harmonies that I love so much…so it’s not too bad đŸ˜‰
Hot Chip are playing Coachella this year! They kicked my ass when I saw them in the Sahara in 2008.
Enjoy! and check out those shows!
