so, lots of things have happened since my last serious post. the montréal jazz fest. tons of shows in between. lots more coming up! i’ve got die antwoord (YESSSSSSSSSS!) tomors, meg montréal and osheaga are coming up, and i am once again heading off to new york for a week and along the way i will  be checking out flaming lips in central park! annnnnd the hard tour in nyc which features m.i.a. and a bunch of crazy fun other artists! i will mos defs be covering meg montréal but i dunno about the rest.

oh fiiiiiiiiiiiiiinally! this mixtape has been soooo long due. like for real. the original playlist for this was made probably two months ago but obviously since then i’ve been hearing a lot of new artists so the playlist is now what it is. i had to put this out before it got too crazy. there are 40 tracks so unfortunately, like last time, i had to convert all the songs to a lower bit rate just to save space and upload it to mediafire…the mp3’s that i offer are of their original quality (very good) but within the mixtape it is all converted.

this mixtape is amazing. not gonna lie. unforts i couldn’t fit ALL the new stuff like lcd soundsystem, ratatat, etc etc but managed to put some amazing tracks from new albums released by m.i.a., crystal castles…and more. there is everything in here from minimal, techno, hip-hop, rap, house, haaaaaaaaaaauss, d’n’b, experimental to psychedelic, soft-pop, israeli goodness, and xyz genre jajaja.

it’s come to my realisation that for those of you who use itunes, the playlist doesn’t quite work and you’d have to renumber them manually just so the tracks play in their proper order…maybe some of you do this, maybe some of you don’t (because you use players like mediamonkey (woohoo!) or songbird (woohoo!))…but i DO encourage you guys to listen to my mixtapes IN ORDER. most of my time spent making them is well, doing the write up, but most importantly, is picking and choosing what goes in the mixtape and how to fit it in…if it isn’t played in order, well i could just pick a bunch of songs i like and zip it up and let it be that. but that’s no fun and so impersonal. i put a lot of love and effort into these mixtapes so i hope that you guys get to hear it the way it’s supposed to be heard! soooo…enough rambling, let’s dance! playlist after the jump!

p.s. happy belated to a special mr. taha!

This has been so long overdue it’s not even funny. This mixtape was probably made a few months ago with a few tweaks here and there…and I wanted to make more changes as every week brings new music and would work so well in this mixtape but alas, no more procrastination! <Clear the Runway> is pretty awesome. Not gonna lie. It has a some songs from my previous mixtape but no worries, it remains Awesome. Perfect for the weekend. Body movin’ body movin’ we be gettin’ down and you know we’re crush groovin’.

Track list:

01 Curren$y & Wiz Khalifa – Car Service

Saw these guys at B.B. Kings in NYC along with Raekwon, Kid Cudi, Jadakiss, and Styles P. Defs the highlight of the show…more so than Raekwon. Who despite being super sick and barely being able to speak, showed up anyways, and called himself a “real nigga” ’cause of that. Yes. Yes. Too bad it was a super disappointing performance of under 60 minutes. Oh well. Curren$y and Wiz TORE SHIT UP! Along with Jada and Styles P. Shit. All for twelve pieces. Thank you OnSmash and NahRight. You guys fuckin’ rule.

02 Drake – Best I Ever Had

Y’all know my obsession for Drake. Seriously if his mixtapes So Far Gone and Property of October didn’t already leave you completely satisfied, as well as the “Forever” track featuring Eminem, Lil’ Wayne, and Kanye, well, you need to get your priorities straight! This boy is seriously blowing up! Not even an album and already he’s got a Grammy nomination. Watch out for some crazy Drake mania in the two zero one oh. This is his best song.  Hands down.

03 Spank Rock – Loose

Off the Bangers and Cash EP. So dirty it’s right. COP IT NOW!

04 Trouble Andrew ft. Diplo – Run, Hide

Not the biggest fan of Trouble Andrews, but this song is pretty sick.

05 Modeselektor ft. TTC – 2000007

Aaaaah my favorite German electronic artists. WHy oh WHYYY aren’t they more well known. It makes me angry. Yet at the same time I’m happy that I have them all to myself…well and a few others. They’ve already released two albums, Happy Birthday and Hello Mom which are ridiculously amazing and seriously unrecognized. They are amazing live. I can’t wait to hear a new album, which is hopefully in the works?

06 Moderat – A New Error

Modeselektor + Apparat. In case you didn’t know. Two huge German powerhouse electronic artists come together and made easily one of the best albums this year, self-titled Moderat. Electronic music, though rising, is continually under-represented! Errrrrbody is all up Indie’s ass with the St. Vincent, Dirty Projectors, and Animal Collective. Sure these albums are great (they really are). But electronic music in the decades and end of year lists are seriously on the back burner. Shit. Moderat is easily in the tops in the decade and end of year for me.

07 Paskal – Sweet Settings (Original Mix)

Yet another German electronic artist. This is pretty much all I know. I can’t find an ounce of info on the guy that’s not in German! Bah! Mais, on s’en fiche! I don’t know if he will have an album coming out soon but DO DO DO cop the Sweet Settings record. Fantastic smooth house in just six minutes. Awesome.

08 Siriusmo – Nights Off

Another German powerhouse DJ. I swear I don’t do racial profiling when I look for music! Somehow everything I end up liking a lot ends up being German…or British jaja. En tout cas, Siriusmo is from Berlin and is signed to BoyzNoise Records. He has a bunch of records out but I only started listening to him after hearing Body Language Vol.8 which was mixed by MODESELEKTOR! GAAH! If you’re a fan of Kompakt releases, the Kitsuné releases…and so forth, get Body Language releases now!!! It is a compilation released by Get Physical, a wicked wicked label housing artists such as M.A.N.D.Y., Noze, and Booka Shade. The BL‘s and Siriusmo’s albums are all you’re gonna get from him because he won’t perform live. Apparently due to conflicting interests. Hmm. Fun fact: he is a pretty great graffiti artist. Respek.

I am back from NYC. Two long weeks of dancing, music, sight seeing, and the FOOD. Yum. Good food. Updates to come on my KYLIE concert, CMJ, and more. I definitely had this song in my head the entire time…and it’s so fitting for New York. It’s just too bad I don’t have that much money to blow. But the song is sexy and makes me feel like I do! BRAP BRAP!

Truthfully, I never knew who Drake was before I heard “Forever”. I know! Slap on the wrist for me. How did this guy get so huge without a record? Internets. THE INTERNETS BABYYYY!!! As I listen to his mixtape So Far Gone, I realise that I do know who he is, with nearly half the songs striking some familiarity with me. Especially the song “Successful” which has a Kanye “Say You Will” 808s and Heartbreaks feel to it. And now that I’m starting to catch up with my blog reading and hearing more and more of his music I realise, this guy IS the next big thing. I came across a great article about him on The Fader:

“On September 7, 2008, Lil Wayne stepped onstage at the MTV Video Music Awards and then stepped decisively away from the words on the lyric sheet circulating in the audience with the following lines…

I’m on my Disney thang, goofy flow/ I’m Captain Hook on the beat and my new car is Rufio/ Damn where my roof just go/ I’m somebody that you should know/ Get to shakin’ somethin’ cause that’s what [deleted] produced it fo’/ I make mistakes that I don’t ever make excuses fo’/ Leavin’ girls that love me and constantly seducing hoes/ I’m losing my mind like, Damn where my roof just go/ Top slipped off like Janet at the Super Bowl

Then, as Leona Lewis launched into the hook of Nina Simone’s “Please Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood,” he croaked, “Drizzy Drake: I love you, bwoy!” That namecheck was the only clue to most attendees that Wayne had just blatantly violated the unwritten rules of his own freestyle game by spitting another artist’s words. Though almost lost in host Russell Brand’s commentary on promise rings and presidential politics, it was a coronation moment rarely seen in the arena of rap, and with one verse, Wayne introduced the name of his protégé to the mainstream in dramatic fashion. Amongst those already familiar with the various Wayne-affiliated rookies collectively known as Young Money, the lines sparked a fierce debate over whether Drake was in fact ghostwriting for the master (he and Wayne both still claim he never has), but by the time the rap blog drama blew over, one thing seemed clear: Drake was the next big thing, heir apparent to Wayne’s multi-platinum throne and Young Money’s most likely flagship artist…

I know I’m a few days late on this…but JESUS this track is killer. Taken from Waffles: Drake spits indignantly, independently, triumphantly; Kanye compares himself to Obama and tires of fame; Wayne’s orbit gets a little more eccentric.  Eminem comes with an intricate rhyme scheme and a flamethrower, incinerating this song and laying down what may be the verse of the year.

Look for this track on the soundtrack for the new LeBron James Documentary soon to be released, More Than Just A Game.

Eminem OWNS this song. So sick.
